Frequently Asked Questions

  • Developmental Relationship-Based (DRBI) is an evidence-based approach that helps children grow through warm, meaningful interactions with the people they know best—their caregivers.

Rather than focusing on changing who a child is, this approach focuses on building connection, understanding each child’s unique profile, and supporting development through relationship and play.

  • DIRFloortime® is a developmental, relationship-based approach that helps children grow through play, connection, and meaningful interactions with their caregivers.

It is a specific model of Developmental Relationship-Based Intervention (DRBI). The focus is on:

    • Engagement and connection – building strong relationships with the people who know your child best

    • Communication and social skills – supporting your child to express themselves and interact with others

    • Emotional regulation – helping your child manage feelings and respond to challenges

    • Learning and problem-solving – encouraging thinking and exploration through natural play

DIRFloortime® is parent-mediated, meaning caregivers learn strategies to support their child during everyday routines, playtime, and daily life. It is neuro-affirming, respecting each child’s unique way of experiencing the world while helping them develop skills and confidence.

    • In-person services may include direct work with your child, while caregiver education happen separately to support learning at home.
